FAWM Over!

Wow, was that overwhelming! An already full life of family, friends, work, home and car maintenance, getting the kids to school and various events, and then trying to get a bunch of songs done? Sheesh! When does one even sleep?

Even still, I got three songs in progress from it, and I’m pretty proud. It was a lot of fun and there was a very supportive community as well. I’ll definitely be doing it again.

Next year, I’ll plan my schedule to leave plenty of room for writing, light recording, collaborating, and commenting. For now, I’ve got one under my belt and it’s a great feeling!

Okay, here’s a link to my profile so you can see/hear what I’ve got in progress: http://fawm.org/fawmers/jlampson/

February Album Writing Month

Welcome to February!

All around the world, songwriters are participating in February Album Writing Month, also known as FAWM (web site: FAWM.ORG). It’s a 28-day personal songwriting challenge where you try to write 14 songs (an album). Whether I’ll get to 14 songs, who knows, but it will be a lot of fun (and a little scary, too)!

P.S. Apparently you can track my progress directly at http://fawm.org/fawmers/jlampson/

Whisper No More

You’ve probably seen it by now if you follow me on social media, but I’m working on a new album. The album, tentatively titled “Towards the Sky”, will lead with my song “Whisper No More”.

Although the song is fully written and arranged, it’s still in the process of being recorded, mixed, mastered, and all that. There’s a lot of work (FUN work) involved in taking a song from idea to final product. I’ve got a demo of the first minute I’m going to share with you here:

The song is about a time in my life where I was very closed off and quiet. If you know anything about me, you know I’m anything but. In the months to come, I’ll continue to share updates on the album’s progress and snippets of songs in progress.

I’m very happy to have you along on this journey; it makes it all so much better.

Yours,

John

New Things Are In Store

Here’s a quick note to let you know that, although I’ve been quiet for a while, I’ve been thinking of you and the rest of my music family.

I’ll be putting together a follow-up post in the next week or two to fill you in on everything that’s been going on as well as what’s in store. It’s going to be pretty cool. For now, please know that I hope you’re doing well.

Talk to you soon!

Feel The Heat

Hello!

Here in Minnesota, we can finally start talking about how we’re getting the weather we deserve after enduring our bitter, seemingly never-ending winter. It’s very hot!

Sometimes you go through bitter things that seem like they will go on forever. And sweet times that, while you’re in them, you hope never have to end. Before you go thinking I’m about to reveal something wrong, stop worrying; all’s well. But the start of summer (the change in any season, really) gets me thinking about the passage of time. For me, the last couple of months have involved a great work/personal trip to San Francisco and then being sick for three weeks after that. Life’s a mix.

During that time, I didn’t even pick up my guitar. When I once again felt like playing and started, I didn’t want to stop. I love music. It fires me up, man!

Is there a lesson to be learned? Maybe, but if not, just know that if you have a passion for something not to worry if you’ll come back to it. There’s probably even a Nicholas Sparks book about something like that.

All you can do is move forward the best you can and feel that heat from whatever lights your passion. I’m happy to be back to a place where I can play and write music again. And as usual, I hope you are also doing well.

John

P.S. Check out the Music tab on this site for streaming and download of my album, my EP, and whatever ends up coming out in the future.

Winter Release EP Now Available

Hello!

I am more than pleased to tell you that my new EP is out. Called “Winter Release”, it has 3.2 songs on it. What’s the “.2”, you ask? Why, “Cats and Pizza”, of course!

There are a couple of ways you can grab the new album:

1. Go to my web site (hey, you’re already here!) and click on “Music”.
2. Search on Google’s Play store.

There you’ll find the new EP; again, it’s called “Winter Release”, as well as my previous full-length album “Here’s Something”.

I hope you’re having a great day!

John

P.S. In addition to being on Facebook and Twitter, I’m now on Google+and I’ll be updating there alongside sending out newsletters!

New Album; Old Album

I wanted to tell you about the new album I’m going to be releasing next month. I’m really looking forward to it! It has new songs, old songs, SongFight entries, and all that. There’s still a lot of work to be done and I’m still deciding what songs will be on there or even ready. After that will come shows, videos, the usual. You, Dear Reader, will be included.

For now, I wanted to point you to a couple of places, the first being this web site where you can click on the Music tab and download (for free – or more, if you want) and share last fall’s album of mine, called “Here’s Something”.

I also think have some really cool news for those of you who use Google Music. Just search for me, John Lampson, on the Google Play Store to find “Here’s Something”. It’s free so you can carry me in whichever pocket you like.

Have a great day!

John
